Application and Compatibility Analysis of Melt Pumps in Plast
In the plastics processing industry, melt pumps serve as precision pressure-boosting and stabilization equipment. Their compatibility directly impacts production line stability and product quality. Based on their operating principle, melt pumps utilize the forced conveying action generated by gear meshing to eliminate the “pulsation effect” caused by pressure fluctuations in traditional extruders. They are particularly suitable for the following six typical production lines:

I. High-Precision Film Extrusion Production Lines
When producing biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) or polyester (PET) optical films, melt pumps can control pressure fluctuations within ±0.5%.
2. Specialized Engineering Plastic Extrusion Systems
For high-temperature, high-viscosity materials like PC and PPS, the melt pump's temperature-resistant design (up to 400°C) and special alloy gears ensure stable melt delivery.
3. Multi-Layer Co-Extrusion Composite Production Line
In co-extruding automotive fuel tank barrier layers (HDPE/EVOH), the melt pump precisely controls layer ratio distribution.

4. Recycled Material Processing Production Line
When processing recycled PET, the melt pump effectively filters out pressure fluctuations caused by impurities.
5. Large-Diameter Pipe Extrusion Systems
For producing HDPE water pipes exceeding DN800, melt pumps compensate for screw pulsation.
6. High-Concentration Masterbatch Compounding Lines
When masterbatch concentrations exceed 8%, melt pumps significantly improve dispersion uniformity.

Technical Selection Guidelines:
1. Flow Matching: Theoretical pump displacement should exceed extruder output by 10-15%.
2. Pressure Gradient: Recommended operating pressure is 1.2-1.5 times the extruder outlet pressure.
3. Material Selection: Use duplex stainless steel or hard chrome-plated gears for corrosive materials.
4. Temperature Control Accuracy: Deviation in each temperature zone must be ≤±1℃

Maintenance Considerations:
• Inspect gear backlash monthly; replace if wear exceeds 0.15mm
• Clean pressure sensor interfaces weekly
• Flush working chamber with dedicated cleaning compound after each shutdown
• Replenish bearing grease no later than every 2000 hours
